Lent 26 Daily Bible Readings

   Today's Reading

ST MARY’S CHURCH - PURTON - LENT 2026

In our verse for the Year 2026 we learnt that God said through Paul, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace...so that you may overflow with hope...” [From Romans 15:13].  One of the ways the God of hope fills us with all joy and peace so that we may overflow with hope is when we regularly read from God’s Word, the Bible.

This Lent we will be looking at the life of Jesus in our Sunday sermons and (if we accept the challenge) in reading a short section from the Gospels, from the life of Jesus on the other six days of the week.  In and amongst the busyness of life at home, in our families and even at Church, we invite you to take some time each day throughout Lent to draw near to God in His Word.

Below are all the daily readings from the Gospels, set out to help us see God at work as we read the Bible.  We will spend each day in the the story of Jesus. However, it is important that we do not treat this as a box ticking exercise or another chore for the “to-do” list. It is an invitation to meet God afresh in His word, and to experience what it is to live in light of the hope He offers us in Christ.  As a Church Family let us together seek to spend time each day to listen to God through His Word.

So find a suitable time each day, a Bible, a notebook and a pen.  Before you start, be still before the Lord and pray that God will speak to you. Then read the passage set for the day, asking three questions:

  • What do I learn about Jesus?
  • What surprises me or puzzles me?
  • What difference could this make to my life?

Jotting down your thoughts will help to focus your mind.  Then pray that God will help you to apply what you have learnt in the day ahead. If possible at the end of the day come back and look at your notes and maybe re-read the Bible passage before going to sleep.  If you have questions bring them with you to Church on Sunday or possibly to the Prayer Meeting or Lent Group you might be a part of. It is my prayer that the God of hope will fill us with all joy and peace this Lent as we read His Word and so that by the power of His Holy Spirit we might together overflow with hope.         Ian Tweedie-S
