Costs and funding
Our estimate for the cost of the West Tower masonry repair project is between £15,000 - £20,000 (excl VAT). This includes both the direct work and professional fees.
We have secured a grant of £5000 from the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust for which we are very grateful. We have also applied for a grant from the Churches Conservation Foundation and we plan to make applications to the National Churches Trust and the Alan Evans Memorial Trust.
We currently have about £1000 in our Roof Repair Fund and hope to start some local fund-raising soon.
How you can help
If you would like to support the conservation of our beautiful village church, here are some ways you could help financially:
- Become a 'Friend' of St Mary's. The Friends were formed in 2003 to help raise money to maintain and restore the fabric of the Church building. Over the years they have raised many thousands of pounds, through donations and a diverse range of events, for which we are much indebted.
- Have a look at the Home Insurance promotion by our church insurers. If taking out a policy with them is appropriate for you this could also benefit our West Tower project.
- Make a direct donation:
By bank transfer:
Name: Parochial Church Council of Purton General Account
Sort Code: 60-21-40
Ref: West Tower
Payee: PCC of Purton General
Ref (on back of cheque): West Tower
Post/deliver to The Vicarage, 2 Kingsacre, Hyde Lane, Purton, Swindon SN54DU
or contact our Treasurer, Berta Legg, for other means to make a donation.
