Children and Young People

As a church family we have a collective responsibility to help young people to grow in faith. We aim to support parents in this ministry by providing and enabling opportunities for young people to learn and explore God’s word.

**New Youth Programme OCTOBER 2020**

Journey

Journey – Is a new youth group for school years 10-13. It starts this Friday 23rd October 7:15-8:30pm. It is run in partnership with Royal Wootton Bassett Methodist Church and will follow on from the youth videos going out on the Upper Thames Circuit YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYZpw6oX_1ef-68tycPGT3Q/). It will be on Zoom so if you want to come along then email Simon at youthwork@stmaryspurton.org.uk for details.

Explorers

Explorers – Is also a new youth group for years 7-9. It starts Wednesday 14th October 7-8pm on Zoom and will be about exploring the Bible together. Please email youthwork@stmaryspurton.org.uk for details.

For both these groups, we are currently looking to recruit some volunteers to help lead/help so if you would be interested in helping to lead either Zoom group with Simon then please contact him at youthwork@stmaryspurton.org.uk

Other groups (some not currently active due to Covid)

Impact

is a weekly club for key stage 2 children to begin to learn more about the bible. With games and craft based on bible stories, it’s a great way for children to take the first steps in their faith while having fun with their friends.

Courage

On most weeks, 11-18 yrs meet for Courage to explore their faith at a deeper level in companionship with others of a similar age and facing similar life challenges. With food, friendship and fun! There are also special programmes for those who want to be confirmed in their faith.

Ignite

is an occasional, informal worship event in a modern style with the youth band leading worship. With time to explore God’s word together while having personal time to reflect on what it means.

United Junior Church

meets most Sundays in term time for 3-11yrs

Getting Involved

Do you have a passion to work alongside young people as they develop and explore their faith and build their relationship with God? If so, we’d love you to consider being a volunteer to facilitate any of the opportunities described here - and, hopefully, to bring and help develop new ideas. For all volunteers working with young people there is a recruitment process with DBS checks. Safeguarding training is provided and there is supervision and guidance throughout.

If direct involvement in youth activities is not for you there are other valuable ways to be involved:

  • Prayer. Please pray regularly for our young people, for their faith and for the volunteers who work alongside them.
  • Encouragement. Take time to get to know our young people, to share your faith with them and to encourage them in their journey.
  • Finance. Please consider giving a regular donation to help fund our part-time youth worker for which the parish currently provides financial support of £6,000/year.
