Gradual Re-Opening of St Marys Church

Ian Tweedie-Smith
12 May 2021 10:17

We look forward to welcoming the Church Family and the Community back into St Mary’s Church in the months ahead.   We hope to have a grand re-opening service on Sunday 5th September at 10.30am with the Bishop of Bristol, when together we can thank God for His provision for our needs and mourn the grief and loss many have experienced in the past 18 months.

However whilst Covid Restrictions remain we will aim to do the following for June 2021.

6th June

8.00am Holy Communion in St Mary’s Church

            10.30am Family Service on Zoom

13th June

10.30am Holy Communion in St Mary’s Church (Amendment 3 June - it is no longer possible to run this service in church. The 10.30 Sunday service will only be on Zoom)

10.30am Sunday Service on Zoom as “An Act of Celebration of Communion”

20th June

8.00am Holy Communion in St Mary’s Church

10.30am New to Church Service on Zoom

27th June

10.30am Holy Communion in St Mary’s Church

10.30am ... also on Zoom as “An Act of Celebration of Communion”

(Our aims for July services will be published in the July Parish Magazine)

We want to remain Covid secure and so we will aim to have a clear 48 hours between services to reduce the need to have a deep clean between each service.  We may be able to have a baptism service on  Sunday afternoon on 6th and 20th June (by using different parts of the building from the 8.00am Communion Service) with very restricted numbers.  We also hope to have the building available for Funerals midweek on Wednesdays or Thursdays again so that there is a clear 48 hours between services.  At present we do not have the capacity to do the deep cleaning ourselves to enable more events.  Hopefully in the weeks ahead restrictions may ease and we may be able to put on more services, and perhaps to open the Church for private prayer after 21st June for at least one time period each week.

Please bear with us in this time of change as we seek to provide events and services both to help people to get to know Christ better and to make Christ known to our community. Also please put the 5th September in your diary and plan to come and join us for a celebration to mark the official re-opening of St Mary’s Church.  To book a place at any of the live services please phone the Church Warden - Sandra Horsnall on 01793 770157.  For more information visit our website   Facebook St. Mary’s Church, Purton, Wiltshire or email or phone 01793 770077.
